The Chicago Woodturners sponsors Bowl and Spindle classes for members, at a greatly reduced price. These feature teachers and mentors from the club ranks and are held at the Chicago School of Woodworking, where we keep our equipment. On December 6, 2025, Al Miotke led a class of three through all the steps necessary to turn a bowl. The class covered setting up the blank for turning, establishing a tenon, shaping the exterior and interior, finish scraping, sanding, applying a finish and reverse chucking to complete the foot.  Harry Olson, Steve Mullany and Jim Dreiling each completed two bowls during the all day class. Al was assisted by Nathan Ward and Andy Kuby, which meant that Harry, Jim and Steve had a full day of one on one instruction. This is one of the benefits of club membership which is under utilized, to say the least.
